Am I creating a Parent ASIN wrong?

I am selecting create product I am selecting YES to “Does the product have variations?” I am adding the brand name

Now here’s the problem: the mandatory fields for things like description, part # etc. don’t go away. The fields that should come from the ChildASIN. It’s my understanding selecting YES for variations, denotes my listing as a Parent ASIN and these specific fields should dissapear and go to the corresponding ChildASIN.

What is going wrong here?
