Amazon buying private label listings out??
Ok so I saw the strangest thing happen…
On one of the products we’re launching, we HAD a main competitor that was dominating the product niche. The seller had two separate listings for the two versions of the product that exist. On keepa it previously showed for the longest time that the seller was FBA third party and by looking at the listing, it was clear that the seller had a brand they had built that wasn’t Amazon.
About 5 days ago we ran metrics on the product again like usual and we saw that same future competitor with the orange “sold by Amazon” tag on keepa instead of the usual red “1 FBA seller” tag you see with 3rd party PL sellers. (We usually run metrics on products at least once every week so this was definitely recent)
So my question is, does Amazon buy out private label listings or brands? Especially ones that are performing well?
I also have another question..
I had mentioned earlier the seller had TWO listings for the two variations of the product. Once they became a “sold by Amazon” product. One of the listings they sold just vanished! Out of existence! And I’m trying to figure out what happened!!!
We’re about to launch this product and our inventory should be landing within 1 to 2 weeks depending on how fast it makes it out of customs. And it just so happened that the listing that got offed is the one we would have competed with directly (the other listing this seller has up is a variation that wouldn’t really compete with us since the variation kind of targets a different audience) and considering he was the top seller, this obviously would be really good for us… hopefully
Not to sound too cocky about our product but although this competitor was formerly the top dog listing that got destroyed… The product we’re launching would have literally pushed this Amazon’s choice (yes, the listing was amazons choice) out! We have a higher quality product with two more USP’s and the USP they had we made better on ours. Our listings copywriting beat theirs by far, and our product pictures made this competitors pictures look weak. They also made 35K monthly in sales. (The other two make 5 and 7K each, and the third which is the absolute worst makes 2K, all 3 probably will change soon) So now I’m left wondering if Amazon would do any sort of actions that would hurt our listing since it’ll be a really good one.
The other 3 listings for that exact product all are weak and are VERY inferior to ours (both listing and actual product which are bad quality and literally have NO USP’s, at least the main competitor had one) but they’re ALL sold by Amazon! And I’m pretty sure they’re gonna scoop up all the sales the main person used to make. Now that I’m writing this I also just remembered that when we first started looking into this product, one of these sellers also used to be 3rd party but FBM, and all of the sudden he also got the sold by Amazon tag, I didn’t really pay much attention to it since his sales weren’t great
So does anyone have any sort of similar experience with a situation like this
Now that I’m putting this into detail I’m not sure whether to be exited and happy that our main competitor got vanquished, or worried Amazon is going to try and mess with us as well….
To anyone who replies, thanks in advance!!
