Book Selling Sizes and Caveats – Pocket Guide for Public Domain Material
I am looking at creating a “pocket guide” and selling it on Amazon. I am currently generating the artwork, and am looking to size this guide at about 3.5×7.0 inches (could be adjusted) and will be about 40’ish pages. My plan is to buy ISBNs from outside of Amazon, get the guide printed outside of Amazon (i.e., *not* KDP), and then ship to Amazon for FBA fulfillment (which I’ve done before for a non-book product). The guide is based on public domain information.
3.5×7.0 is not a standard book size, so I’m wondering– before I go down this road– if there are any caveats about using FBA for non-standard book sizes, particularly those that are small pamphlet-like publications. Also, are there any non-obvious concerns to consider about information that must be provided within my publication (want to know this before I get my physical copies from the printer!)? For example, if I get it printed in China, does Amazon require a line on the copyright page indicating that? Anything to consider re: its public domain nature?
I’ll appreciate thoughts from anyone who’s smarter about this than I am. My fear is that I’ll get a nice physical product and then find out something I didn’t realize that will make my order unsellable. Thanks!
