How Amazon hurts small businesses
I sell through Amazon and my Shopify site. Amazon fulfills all orders. I sell one product and I’m the only one selling the product.
I recently sold out and had to take preorders through the website. My inventory came in, and I synced my website pre-orders over to Amazon for fulfillment. Now, a month later, Amazon has still not shipped hundreds of orders and has cancelled 60 of them. I ended up selling out again, but Amazon kept listing my product for sale. Their solution? Cancel my MCF orders and use that inventory to fulfill the orders made through their website.
Now I need to contact my customers (60 of them as of now), refund them, and apologize for not being able to fulfill their orders after over a month of holding their money and giving them promises that “it’s coming soon.”
Do NOT trust MCF. Even when Amazon is at fault, they will never admit it and don’t do anything to fix it. I was told I could expect a call from “leadership” (Amazon’s form of a manager) in 4 days because they have so many issues going on right now.
