Listing potential products as generic for testing

I’m still new to the FBA space. I have found potential products that I think are opportunities but it is too soon for me to decide because I have no data yet (yes I’ve done the research) that’s why I decided to sell products as generic, test the market and then decide. What is your advise? What are the benefits/setbacks of this?
